I have a Gigabyte X58 MB and am using the TOSLINK output port to my Yamaha receiver. Would adding the Xonar card help my sound quality? If I remember correctly the TOSLINK output, the receiver is doing all the processing, and the MB should be just sending binary data.... So unless I am missing something not sure if my sound quality will be any better?

Please advise!!!

Thanks

The sound will be the same unless you use the Xonar card to change it with equalizer effects, etc.

Will be the same, except of course, if you're using the equalizer as Modelworks mentioned.

If you get a sound card with an emi shield, it will sound a lot better than your receiver, though.

if you play 3d games, make sure you enable dolby digital live in the realtec controls. i think the xonar would sound better only if you use the analog in/outs.
