Just picked up a DX and it's great, except for i'm getting frequent static from anything other than gaming when the sample rate is set to 192 KHz. Setting it to 96 KHz fixes this..

So is there any big difference between 96 and 192? What could be causing the static? It doesn't happen it games but music, youtube, any videos, basically anything other than games makes it happen.. and since I always stream music while gaming, it's an issue.

This is literally the first sound card i've ever owned so go easy on me, always used onboard before.

Generall speaking you want to keep the cards samplig rate the same as the source samplig rate to stop the sound driver from resamplig it, thus retaining the original sound without having it touched at all by the sound driver. CD's are 44.1 so you are probably going to want to use that for music.

That said my Asus Xonar STX has no static issues at 192, but i only ran it at 192 long enough to find the option to switch it to 44.1. I use a linux server to stream FLAC files and have no issues so far.

If there is still static at 44.1 from a 44.1 source i would start to think it could be defective.

Well that's not really an option as I do a lot of things at once and can't keep switching the rate constantly. Especially since I don't really know what the rates are on anything..

IE if i'm playing a game i'm streaming music as well, and might alt-tab out to watch a youtube video for a minute. Or stop streaming and start playing from my own music files.

I guess leaving it at 96k is gonna have to do but it's kind of annoying to pay for a certain quality and then be forced to lower the quality.

I tested my STX at 192 this morning and it worked fine. You may have a defective card and might want to look into getting a RMA for it.

It's probably faulty/ damaged muting transistors on the card.. It's poor design imho...

Short the muting transistors and you'll be golden. I had this problem on numerous sound cards.

They're usually damaged by static from your body, if you use earbuds and grounded yourself,,, OR static from equipment.

Well I got my AT headphones in today and low and behold.. no static at all on anything.

So it's gotta be either my speakers or the speaker cables going into the sound card, cause I use front-panel for the headphones. Who knows but at least it's not the card. :)
