xobx hdtv kit and component input

I am buying a TV for the common room in my suite at college and will probably be getting a 27inch TV with component input (not hd though), will the Xbox hd kit work (since it has component output), I know RCA has vport on theirs (just component) and they advertise for Xbox so I would assume it would work (480p I guess), I just want to make sure before I bother to buy the adapter.
 
You can always exchange the pack if it doesn't work.
BTW, MS' High-Def pack INCLUDES a component cable, so don't let some numbskull salesdroid try to sell you one unnecessarily.

I believe it is called the advanced HD kit. I have one. If you do now have a HDTV, it will run at 480i and if you do have a HDTV, it will run at 480p or higher. I think the RCA TVs come with their VPORT cord. THey are not HDTVs so they play at 480i. The only advantage is there is a one plug assembly. Now doesn't that sound like something you would want to spend extra money on??

Nope. The Advanced AV Pack only supports composite (RCA) or S-video connection.
The one he's talking about is called The Xbox High Definition AV Pack.

Personally, if I was never going to hook my Xbox to anything but an RCA TV with VPORT, then I might consider buying the Xbox to Vport cable. However, since that cable is proprietary, it can't be used with anything but Vport.

So, if you think you'll connect to a non-RCA TV with component input at some point, I'd go with the Hi-Def Pack instead.
 
thanks, I am just going to buy the Xbox high def av pack, I wasn?t going to buy the vport plug just curious, and more importantly wasn?t sure that the high def av pack would actually do 480i, since it says it supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i, though I just saw it says DVD?s are 480i only so obviously it supports 480i.
