I just got a computer repair/building kit that came with an electric soldering iron. What kinda stuff can I do with it that I, as a computer hardware amateur buff, gamer, and minor fan of gadgets, will find interesting? Thanks.

I find it really handy for larger electrical stuff- it's useless for repairing computers; unless somebody did something stupid like cut a power supply wire with scissors.

Find some old worthless computers/parts and get a little practice before doing it on anything of value. For computers though I think the only time I've ever actually needed to use it was resoldering a powersupply fan.

For practical purposes its rarely necessary to use a soldering iron on desktop computers. Most wires can be spliced, shorted, and taped; not realy necessary to use solder in most cases. Laptop repairs are more prone to the need for solder. Its a tool that can be used when needed.

As a hobby there are soldering kits that are for sale at places like radio shack.
