Hey,

I was just wondering if anybody had any idea when I can expect a substantial price cut on hard drives as this Christmas approaches. As I realize this morning that I have just FILLED a 100 GB hard drive my RAID-5 fileserver project's priority has jumped quite a bit for me. I'm hoping to order as soon as possible, but I'd not like to miss out on any good deals.

Last year I recall the price of the RAM I needed quadrupling after Thanksgiving; changing my plans from a gig to a mere 256. I know the rest of the hardware industry isn't as volatile as that market, but I'd appreciate knowing when I should consider moving forward on this project as to not get burned.

In the past, the price of computer gear has always gone up during the Christmas season and a little after. Increased demand, I suppose.

The HOT DEALS people are really sharp and can fill you in better. There are very often good deals (with rebates) on HDs from big retailers. Otherwise OEM drives from the Internet have far better prices.

The only place that I know of that may have deals is Best Buy, I got some decent prices right after Thanksgiving last year. Other than that you won't see any price declines until right after Christmas when vendors are trying to get people to continue buying even though they blew their wad over christmas.
