On behalf of my fellow AMD fans on this forum I'd like to wish the NVidians here a Merry Christmas and best of luck for the New Year.
Let's hope both camps can churn out some killer hardware for us all to drool and argue over^_^

2nded.

Looking forward to purchasing a new (my first purpose made/built) gaming PC within the coming months. Was holding off awhile to see where I'd be moving too, and it seems like I'll be going gaming laptop as the nearest place for wired broadband is the local Starbucks. So I'd better see some killer hardware on that front.

I'm actually pretty exited about both the Radeon 8970M and the GTX 780M. Whichever wins out gets a place, times two, inside my future lappy for a loong time.

You do realise green and red are the colours of the holiday, right?
This is the time of year when NV and AMD GPUs (or AMD CPUs and AMD GPUs) go hand in hand with each other.

You know it won't be long till NVDA and AMDGraphics have access to these new, latest process nodes that Intel is currently enjoying.
Their GPU teams are most likely cutting edge but without the luxury of the big buck, pure research programs Intel runs concurrent with architecture design.
NVDA has some very bright people and great leadership, it's amazing really that ATI/AMD has kept up with, and often surpassed them.
I can't wait to see what they're both capable of.

Yes, I agree. I haven't been infracted for months, which means there hasn't been anything good to debate about!

The best we can do these days is argue over driver improvements. :(

I was confused when I read the title because green team = Nvidia

Even if AMD took over ATi, for me they will forever be the red team, or else we have 2 green teams which is just boring

Uh, if you read the OP again, he's wishing it to Nvidia fans, which makes sense.

No love for the blue team? (Intel IGP...WOOOOO!)

Happy holidays everyone! I just want to say again, at the end of the day, whether you support AMD or Nvidia is inconsequential. It's piece of plastic and metal. What matters more is that we are all here, lucky enough in our lives that we can indulge in a hobby like this, and that this hobby brings us all joy no matter who made our computers. Some people get too worked up over these silly things... there is more to life than a frame count.

The world is ending - we agree on something!

I think in the past few years AMD has had the upper hand in terms of engineering smarts, whereas Nvidia has the upper hand in leveraging their hardware via features, software, and support. What both companies do at 20nm will be very interesting.

AMD graphic division has been really extraordinary when it comes to the HW. Its very commendable.

But i think nvidia has been too ambitious. that may not be a result of lacking engineering smarts. I really doubt it is. They push the limits even on a fresh node and this often causes them set backs. Even still they have managed these set backs very well. Its like they aim for the moon to only reach the sky. But really it hasnt been such a bad thing in the grand scheme.

Imagine if they didnt have these set backs. Instead of the 480 they dropped the 580 against the 5870. Imagine if the 2880core big kepler came out a year ago! Every time nvidia is slowed down you know it brings a smile to all of AMD. I think these slip ups have been keeping things leveled.

Nvidia and AMD do things dramatically different. There is probably many many reasons why. Nvidia is bold and has been able to mustard these set backs. AMD has been sure and steady in their progression. You may can see what nvidia is doing in a bad light but it has actually worked out pretty well so far. I dont think its all a waste for nvidia and they do learn a lot. If they continue going hard at it like they have been, its gonna be scary the time they finally hit gold and dont have a set back. Or better yet the reverse, if they completely drop the ball. So far they been juggling along just fine. Ups and downs sure, but the company has stayed well above water. And these have been some very unforgiving times to many tech companies.

So to sum it up, i do think AMD has shown some great engineering smarts in their GPU designs. But i think there is something else that sets them apart from nvidia. They are on two very different paths which brings them to very different ways of doing things. Its two completely different philosophies/ ideologies
