BetaNews is reporting that AOL and XM are joining forces to make available 20 XM music channels plus 130 of its own available to anyone on the internet for free starting this summer. AOL members will have free broadband access to 70 XM channels, although apparently there are plans for a $5/month option for non-subscribers. The deal means AOL Music specials will make it onto XM's channels, and XM promos will be heard across AOL Music's properties."

Do they mean the XM channels they will be providing for free online or will they be in the actual satellite feed to normal subscribers?

They're going to be offering exclusive content to XM subscribers. Why does this make xm worse than sirius?

I think it is a great idea. My post was a joke.

It's the original poster that has a bug up his butt about anything AOL.

XM isn't 100% commercial free. There are only 30 or so channels that are 100% commercial free and just because AOL gets added into the list of advertisements on the channels that DO have commercials doesn't mean XM is getting any worse. Sh|t, they're even adding 20 new channels and 130 internet channels. Oh man, I think I'm going to sh|t my pants because XM is now worse than AM radio.

Oh wait.

30 channels of commercial free? Try more like 120.

But they are seriously going on a downward spiral. They axed their metal channel. Unbelievable. Theyre adding so many damn MLB games that the bandwidth for the rest of the service is suffering.

Whats really sad is that all of the data transmitted across all of their channels could probably be squeezed into the bandwidth available for a single DTV channel, and yet theyre STILL ridiculously bandwidth limited. Same for sirius.

Sirius still sucks though.

I seriously could have thought of a dozen other channels that could have gone before they cut an entire genre out across the board.

Seriously, who listens to ngoma? Or u-pop? or unsigned?

The AOL Music specials are usually pretty good, this doesn't change anything for potential XM listeners.

I tried Sirius for a while, I wasn't impressed with the music selection at all. XM seems to have more that I'd be interested in, and better receivers too.
