So you guys have no problems whatsoever when it's inside the car?

i get the full bars on my XM express with it inside the glass

the only time it cuts out is when i go under a freeway overpass in the suburbs/away from the terestrial repeater that they have in the city

Its on the dash in my car...the signal gets dropped sometimes...but at specific spots, so i think its more crap coverage than bad antenna placement...

How's the coverage otherwise? Out of curiousity.

I know when i drive out to the boondocks, like up to go camping or whatever i get dropped a lot. I've always figured it was crap coverage...but normal everyday driving in the city and on the highways, its perfect.

Its a sattelite, the coverage is the same everywhere in north america. It won't drop out because you're in the 'boondocks'.

It will only drop out when the antenna looses sight of the sattelite. The reason its working for you in the city is XM has ground repeaters that work much like FM radio. So even if the antenna can't get signal from the sky, it can get it from the ground. The issue your having of your signal dropping off in 'the boondocks' is probably related to bad antenna placement. When you're out there, you have no repeater signal so you're relying on the sattellite for signal. Since its in your car, the antenna isnt getting the signal from the sky, when you face certain directions. put it on the outside of your car and i bet it won't drop off.

I tried placing the antenna inside my car, but the windshield was too sloped. My signal drops out when I face north.

Edit: I placed mine on the trunk of my car.. works flawlessly. Only drops out when im behind a building or under a wide bridge.
