It's a good service idea, but the misconception is that it's commercial-free. There's actually something like 70 out of 100 stations that will have some advertising.

Other than that, though, if you have the hardware to receive it, it should be a cool service.

It uses 2 boeing 702 satellites in geostationary orbit whose names are "rock" and "roll". They are transmitted down to repeaters on the ground which should effectively make it possible to drive from NY to LA without ever losing the radio station you're listening to.

I have a friend who was able to try out the XM thing. Went interstate from Washington to NY and he said it was working like a charm.

As for the ads, from what i recall there are some ads but they're like 1 every hour or so and are pretty short. Not to mention they're usually plugs for the station (that could change in the future though as more marketing reps see this as a good advertising medium)

I'm from H-Town and the radio here sucks bigtime, you get more talk than show and when there is music playing they get repeated like they only have 10 or so tracks in their library.

Mucho talk + No variety = One less listener.

My pioneer deh p7300 is XM Radio ready
but i'm sure as heck not paying $10 a month to listen to "uninterrupted" music when I can do that already by bringing my wallet of CD's of my own favorite mixes :D
