XM Radio: portable player "MyFi" looks pretty cool

looks like it's coming out "early december".

a few drawbacks: $350 seems a bit pricey and 5 hours or reported battery life seems short.

i'm not an XM user, so anyone hear about this?

I saw it in the new Crutchfield catalog this week. Seems cool but I wonder how good the reception is indoors and in work environments. Having to pay monthy service fee will keep me from buying into sat. radio.

$350 may be a bit pricey for just a portable XM radio, but it looks like it comes with a dock and remote control (turning it into a home reciever too) as well as a car kit. Looks almost like 3-in-1 type deal.

I like it. I had never even considered paying for XM before, but something like this makes it much more attractive. Very good product idea -- if it works...

EDIT: webpage says it also has a builtin FM transmitter, so you really can use it anywhere. Also has a stock ticker, sports score ticker, and more "internet-like" features. Also, if, I'm interpreting the "memory mode" section correctly, it can record up to 5 hours from XM radio. I thought they didn't allow that?

All in all, this could be pretty damn cool if DRM doesn't get in the way.

in this day of making everything an optional accessory, it's nice to see delphi include a ton of stuff with the MyFi

Yea, I agree. Once this package is available, I can't think of many reasons to buy any other kind of XM reciever.
