XM-Radio, $10 a month for Radio, is this a joke?

Oh, expect satellite tv in the car within the next couple of years. Saw an article on it a couple of months ago.

$10 for basic channels, specialty channels are extra, I don't even listen to radio, but who the heck is gonna pay for radio? Sure it can be ultra clear and commericial free, but its still radio.

People said the same thing about TV once, too.

Rob

Thats totally different, listening to a game on the radio totally blows compared to watching it on TV.

With the growing popularity of MP3 capable CD players, you can have hundreds of song on a single cd, why would you want radio? News? Get a PDA😀.

dude when i drive to College Station, i go throgh the NE corner of New Mexico and the pan handle of Texas. On a sunday there are only one thing on the one station you can get and that is southern baptist preaching. its enough to make one go crazy. Im seriosly thinking about getting XM or Sirrus.

Meh. I don't like it, because I like local DJs, but it's not a *bad* thing.

What is really a joke is paying $50/mo for cable, and they still have commercials.

exactly, Comcast basic advance lineup cost is rediculous.

you drive to college station from boulder regularly? thats some drive... there is NOTHING in the panhandle... drove through lubbock on I29, passed right by downtown and my roommate at the time swears we didn't go through downtown lubbock...

i'm almost thinking about getting one of them just because local radio is boring

Heh, we just got 2 on-air systems from a radio station near Lubbock. They were kind enough to leave some of their commercials on the computers for us.

Talk about a riot. Those things were so overmodulated and so poorly read, we had people gathering around to laugh at them. 😀

Especially "Little Known Facts".

Sirius has 2 NPR stations...along with some other great talk radio....
I got my entire setup for free, $300 system for agreeing to subscribe
for 1 year at 12.95/month...Did it through the Sirius Friends and Family
promotion...I think Crutchfield.com has a similar promotion going on right
now...

Sirius is awesome....60 commercial free music channels, 40 talk/entertainment
channels including comedy, Radio Disney, E! Entertainment Radio, Court TV,
Discovery Radio...and the quality is quite good for an FM Modulated system.

Install was easy, me and a buddy did it....and they DO have a receiver coming
out that is portable...like a boom box, take it to the beach, inside the house,etc...
And starting June 1, adding an additional receiver to your existing account will
only be $6 extra a month, vs. the 12.95/month for the first receiver....

I drive a lot but not so much that local radio plus CDs don't cut it most of the time; I'd never pay $10/month for satellite until I started putting more hours on the road. If I had a one hour commute each day I'd do it.

i also use Sirius and i dont mind paying $13 a month for 100% commerical free music and lots of other entertainment channels

Yes i do, about every 5 weeks or so. I hate the drive, about 40 miles south of pueblo on I-25 there is about 1 FM station all the way to Witchta Falls Texas.... and in a few stretches through New Mexico there are absoutly NO radio stations at all. Its like a nuclear war just happend. hit scan on your radio and it does not stop...just watch the numbers go and go and go.

My doctor has it in his office. It is worth the cost, if you have the disposible income. The sound quality and variety is great. You do not have to listen to obnoxious DJs and commercials.

The entire Sirius setup only cost me $170 installed. It is an additional deck (sort of a deck) that sits below my main deck. The entire unit is FM modulated and the $12.95/month covers all 100+ channels.

Do they have a station that plays metal? If so I would be interested 🙂

Some good Metal Channels listed below on XM 🙂

Boneyard - XM 41
Now you're in for it: killer Hard Rock and more insanity than you thought a radio channel could be. Get busy and get boned - with bands like AC/DC, Ozzy, Metallica, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Ratt and Guns n' Roses.

XM Liquid Metal - XM 42
Metal is back. And we've got it. XM Liquid Metal brings metal back to radio in all its anger and glory, 24/7. At last!

Squizz - XM 48
Take a squizz at this: hard alternative in the post-grunge era, fusing metal-rap-funk-world with aggressive, heavy guitars. You'll hear everything from the pioneers -- Korn and Limp Bizkit -- to today's emerging stars -- Stone Sour and Trust Company.
