I can get either complete car setup for free at work, all im responsible for paying for is the monthly payment....

Which should i go for, XM or Sirius?

XM has a higher customer base, and thus is more likely to be around in a few years. The also have more channels, though less "commercial free" channels and better audio quality. On the other hand, they are partlin owned by Clear Channel...

isn't Sirius a few dollars more a month with no commercials at all? sounds like a better deal

do they use the same hardware?

Ha! I'm listening to Sirius right now. Are you into Dance music in any way? if you are then Sirius is the way.... I have the Audiovox PNP1 and it is great. Whatever you do research both services well. You can start here:

Visit www.siriusbackstage.com for the Sirius forums where you can ask questions etc.

Visit www.xmfan.com for the XM forums.

If you are paying for radio, you might as well get it commercial free, so I chose to pony up the extra $3 for the quality. I ahve the home kit and the car kit. The Home kit is hooked up directly to my logitech z560's and the sound quality is crystal clear no probs. Anyone who tells you that XM has better quality is smoking something... and it must be good...

You best bet though is going to the above 2 sites reading the feedback, the questions posted by others etc and deciding. Either way, it will be a step up and you WILL be hooked.

Edit: I'm not sure if your install will be at home or just the car... but once you listen you WILL be hooked to the music variety and programming, so I would strongy suggest getting a plug'n'play type, otherwise you will miss it each time you leave your car. If you have any questions let me know. You can sample the sirius real time music streams (not the talk/news) online at the sirius website the quality is not the same as the direct feed though, so dont think that that is what it sounds like.

Also Sirius has a larger more informative display, with both artist and song title, so it helps if you hear something and you really want to find more music by the artist.

I've been trying to decide which to get myself. I have a Pioneer XM Head Unit in my car so that pushed me in the direction of XM but Sirius has NPR so that made it a little tough to decide.

Thanks to the links TubStain posted I now know that Sirius doesn't air All Things Considered or Morning Edition which are the NPR shows I care the most about.

Since I have the XM Ready HU and XM is cheaper anyway, I think it's the choice for me. Now to convince the wife. 🙂

Thanks for the info, TubStain.

My XM Delphi unit displays both artist and song title.
