XL800 vs X850

Yes, X850 > X800XL in all areas, most assuredly the price.

Save some money and get the XL, unless you have gobs of cash and need bleeding edge performance.

Let me just say I run UT2k4 with EVERYTHING highest detail (you'll hear a 'holy shitttt' in the background to confirm) and still get 80+ average FPS with my XL.. of course Vsync makes it a nice even 60.

Online play is capped at ~85 fps in UT2k4.

I wouldn't buy the X850XT, since most games can run max settings (excepting maybe @ 1600x1200) on the X800XL.

FRAPS

if you type STAT FPS in the console, it will display the average and current FPS. Type in STAT NONE to stop displaying it.

Also, yes. Fraps will to that as well.

If you can afford the X850XT no problem then yeah grab that it is a bit faster than the XL but if you are on a budget the XL will be fine.

If you have more money that you are itching to spend do not by the X850... the 6800GT is a step above the XL and is only a mere ~$50 more, the X850 is not worth it unless you want bragging rights. The X800XTPE is only a small 5% slower than the X850 but the X850 is still higher in price, IMO not worth it.

I'd get the XL and save the difference for a fast SM3 card (the upcoming R520 or nV's 6800 refresh, both due probably 2H05).

Edit: If the PCIe 6800GT was only 50 more, it'd be something to consider. I thought PCIe 6800GTs sold at or above MSRP, tho?

You bet. It was my first Rare and personal favorite now. Given to me in a deck for my birthday. I haven't played Magic in a while. The new ridiculous mechanics and abilities don't hold my interest. I tried to get back into it about a year or two ago with no success.

Sweetness, my name is based off a card from the worst set ever made lol, of course I stopped playing a while ago too when all these crazy abilities came into play and I lost interest. Was fun while it lasted though, I use to love deck building and such, was pretty damn good in tournaments actually.

I dunno, It's kind of a tossup between worst expansions. Ice Age, Visions and Homelands were pretty crappy. And I didn't notice your name. I actually didn't pay attention to who quoted me and posted a comment. 😕 Funny thing was...when I was younger and 5th edition came out, I started to collect the entire set. I'm only missing like 15 of the card s from it. Unfortunately I didn't realize then that I started collecting the LARGEST SET IN MAGIC EVER. It was almost double the cards in any standalone set and nearly triple that of any expansion. :S

Also: Check out my sig I made for message boards. Will you be able to guess what cards I used? 😉
