I have almost decided on the HDT-S1283 heatsink but I have a few questions about it. Does anyone know if it fits in a p182? I will be moving out of dorms in a few months: would I have to take off the heatsink for transport on a 1hr drive? I will be purchasing the thermalright bolt thru kit so that may help...?? Thank you.

Yes, it'll fit in a P182. I had a P180B & it fit fine w/no problems.
It might be a good idea to take it off before transporting, IMHO.

Could I get away with a smaller size like the HDT-SD964 if I was only looking to get 3ghz out of my q6600 GO?

Yeah, but I don't have ambition to exceed 3ghz.

You may be able to get by w/the HDT-SD964, but that's a hot chip you got to begin with. I'd play it safe & go w/the HDT-S1283.
