Woke up this morning to find my computer off. Turns out the Xigmatek HDT S1283 heatsink broke one of the plastic retention socket lugs to wich the metal clip attached, this while I was asleep so no case movement was involved and after 3 months without problems and very nice temps. As a result, the heatsink fell off unto my video card (hopefully nothing broken there). This particular model does not seem to have included a motherboard backplate mounting mechanism for my AMD mobo (ASUS M4A79T deluxe).

Can such a backplate and screws be bought separately or should I just get a new heatsink altogether? Just getting a replacement plastic retention bracket seems to me like inviting this to occur again. I might as well just Crazy Glue the plastic bit back on then.

Now you got me wondering if the washer mod I did was such a good idea. What is the extra pressure going to cause to break

The extra pressure my thermalright screw mount + backplate put on my xigmatek stripped out one of the screws holding the bracket to the base :(

Only negative thing I have to say about the Xig

I've ordered the Scythe aluminum bracket kit linked by Engineer from NCIX. Will also rig something to ease the load by gently cabling/metal wiring the heatsink to the top of the case.
