Xigmatek Crossbow bracket - what's different between the 2 versions

Hi!
I now have the SD964 to cool my Q9550 along with the 17753 crossbow bracket that's meant for 4-heatpipe coolers.

Well, now I'm thinking of getting the S1283 hoping to further control the temps while oc'ing the C2Q {going for 500fsb now :)}

My question is, why 2 different versions of the bracket? The 17751 apparently is for the 3-heatpipe coolers. Does that mean I can't use that same bracket I have now on the S1283?

Btw, I already sent an email to Xigmatek and have not received any response yet that's why I'm turning to the forums now about this.

Thanks in advance

One is for the 1283 and the other is for the 1284, or more specifically, one is for 3-heatpipe coolers and the other is for 4. Can you guess how I found out? :p

I bought the wrong one by mistake, but the only difference between the "arms" which come with the stock unit and the crossbow kit are the pushpins vs. the screws/springs. What I mean is, the arms themselves will accept either or. So if you end up with the wrong arms like I did, no big deal because you have the screws/springs you need. One e-clip holds the spring/screw assembly together, take all four of those off. Then, remove the pushpins, if you look at how they're slotted, you can see how to disassemble them. I think there's a guide somewhere on the forum, but I was able to figure it out. Then, just assemble the screw/spring assembly on the correct arms and you're all set to go!

Or, just buy the 1284 and you can keep the current kit you have with no modification :p

Thanks for the detailed explanation, geno.

Good to know the difference is just in the arms which can be fixed based on your description. I like the 1284 but the 1283 is available locally and cheaper than 'egg.

Also, for the price difference, I don't think the 4 pipes perform *that* much better than the 3-pipe setup. PM me if you have any more questions if you end up having to do the swap. I should've taken pics and done a DIY....but I was so eager and frustrated when I realized I had the wrong kit, I just wanted the cooler in my system!

EDIT - I just noticed you're in Derry. When you say "locally", what store are you going to? I don't know if you make it to Boston very often, but Microcenter has a truckload of them on their shelves. If I remember, they're still at what I paid at @25 after rebate.

Yes, I do live in Derry but I work out of Boston {at least 3x a week} at the Financial district so Microcenter at Cambridge is the one "local" to me :) That's where I got most of the items for my recent build.

Thanks again geno. If I end up getting the S1283 next week and need help with the diy, I'll most certainly ask for your help. Still need to make sure the heatsink will clear my side panel. It's about 1in taller than the SD964
