It seems like the hardware equation on the consumer side for 4K is more or less solved by now.
The major issue now is the internals, things like content in 4K and the bandwidth to stream it/transmit it in 4K.

Still, pretty impressive.

It'll take time like 1080 adoption.

You ca get 4K via netflix and youtube online but the compression rates won't be the same until we get a new standard for a disc or they change blu ray to support 4K. Or they improve streaming services. You can also get a $800 Sony box that you can get 4K content on.

This is strictly for the well off that want 4K quality as an early adopter while things are up in the air.

4K with high bit rates looks awesome on the demo's I've seen.

Going to take a while before broadcasters start producing content in 4K. Right now it's just movies. Mainly those shot on RED cameras, etc.

Bandwidth is going to be one of the biggest roadblocks. Most broadcast systems don't even output in 1080p. They use 1080i, which runs at 29.97fps. Codecs are improving though that will help this issue.

The second issue is cost. You need to buy new cameras, editing software and computers, train staff how to use them. All very expensive. The good thing this time is digital infrastructure is already in place. Not like the SD to HD transition when everything had to be converted from analogue to digital.

I have heard that upscaling from blu-rays shows improvement shown on the 4k screen. Doesn't quite make sense to me, but that's what they say.

300gb cap on my Comcast internet, in a house with 3 kids we have gone over 3 months this year already.

Pathetic. Nothing but Netflix and video games, along with our Dish TV, 4 smartphones, 3 Google Nexuses...*sigh*

Limits need to be raised, a lot, if they expect anyone to use any new HD upgrades.

They're never going to raise the limits because better internet access, especially streaming video, conflicts directly with their other services. It's also why they want net neutrality dead. They want to keep conventional cable the prime source for video to the home, so they can keep collecting carriage fees from the networks. When all these cable companies started offering broadband, I don't think they had a clue the direction things would go. Though even 10 years ago the writing was already on the wall.
