Xgamer 5.1 software problems

Creative offers some software with this card that allows you to set it to whatever speaker setup you use, I had been using a 2 speaker setup, and just bought a 4.1 system. So i install this software that came with my XGamer 5.1 card, and my box wont boot, dies at win98 logo..so i go into safe mode, remove the software, leave the drivers, and it runs fine..is there a way to setup this card to use a 4.1 system without the software? Did i hookup my speakers wrong? (card has 2 outputs, sub has 2 inputs, i matched the colors ) Anyone else had problems with this software? Thanks for any info..

Hmm, that is weird. I have the same card and use the same software. I ran it Win98SE w/o a hitch and am now running it in W2K, but wih updated drivers from their site.

I doubt you have the outputs hooked up wrong, but double-check anyway. What speakers are you using? You DO need the software (Audio HQ) in order to take advantage of the cards' considerable EAX surround sound capabilities.

1. Reread the manual that came w/your speakers to ensure you have everything hooked up correctly.
2. Uninstall the Audio HQ and the drivers
3. Do you have some kind of registry-cleaner program? If so, run that. This will eliminate any orphan .dll's that are hanging around.
4. Reinstall the drivers/Audio HQ

This just popped into my head...are you running an AMD system? Do you have the 4-1's installed? More info....

ill run a reg cleaner in a few mins..

i run an amd 800 k7, the speakers are altec lansing atp5's...what's about the 4-1s?

update:

ran the regcleaner, rebooted, reinstalled audiohq and EAX software, no dice, still dies at boot screen, had to uninstall it all and redo just the drivers, works fine, but no 4.1...

ok ok ok, im a n00b of somesort...apparently the speakers themselves have modes as to what you want to use, 2.1, 4.1 and the like, called stereo and stereo2x, the speakers didnt come w/ a book or anything, kidna wierd, but im still wanting to use the creative software, i think i will reinstalling windaze98, thanks for the help
