OK, well, I have seen a ton of notebook deals recently, and as its tax refund time, I am looking at getting one of the new Dell Inspirons.

What I am curious about, is the difference in quality between the XGA, XGA+, SXGA, SXGA+, and last but not least UXGA.

I've seen one too many people post "XGA is crap" or "SXGA rules" in the hot deals threads. DUH, obviously the cheapest solution is not the best. Can someone please offer some sort of technical details as to what each offers/lacks, or at the least, link to a webpage with a good cross comparison? I know if I buy XGA it isn't going to be the best, but I would at least like to make an educated decision.

While we are at it, I've seen plenty of PentiumM 1.6 benchmarks, anyone seen a good set of 1.3 or 1.4 benches ?

It has nothing to do with quality, each type is a different resolution.

XGA - 1024x768
XGA+ - 1152x864
SXGA - 1280x1024
SXGA+ - 1400x1050
UXGA - 1600x1200

If only all of life's questions were so simple, thanks a ton man.
With an answer that simple, I feel dumb having asked.

I strongly urge you to take a look at some laptops in a shop before deciding/ordering a laptop.

Many people buys their laptop with a wrong screen. IMO XGA is crap on a 15" but fine on 14", SXGA+ is a little too small on 14" but fine on a 15", but this is only what I like, YOU could be fine with a 14" UXGA, you really need to check this aspect of laptop buying out before ordering.

Imagine UXGA on 14", I wouldn't enjoy it. And I know you can adjust font sizes, icons and dpi settings, but it still looks wrong to me anyway.

Edit: I am also on the look out for a Centrino, I think i've got it narowed down to the Dell Inspiron 600m (when Dell will allow us danes to buy them) or the Acer Travelmate 800 series.
