So is all this nonsense just telling me what resolution it runs at?

XGA = 1024 x 768
SXGA = 1280 x 1024
UXGA = 1600 x 1200

add a W to any of those and I get the wide screen aspect ratio?

Still havent figured out the + tho...

My laptop is SXGA, its awsome I would shoot for atleast that. I know some people with just XGA and all they do is complain about it and wish they had atleast SXGA.
Yes it just the standard resolutions.

EDIT: I just noticed you said SXGA is 1280x1024. Which I am pretty sure is incorrect as my SXGA laptop is 1400x1050.

SXGA+ is 1400x1024 roughly. Its the 3:4 version of 1280x1024 (since 1280x1024 is 4:5 ratio).
QXGA is 2048x1536. Q means 4x the area of whatever letters follow it.
H means 16x the area of whatever letters follow it. HXGA = 4096x3072

Highest resolution i have seen is WQUXGA which is on the 22" IBM LCDs. 3800x2400ish IIRC.
