I just got a XG Magnum PSU and in the manual's diagram it shows the 2 molex connections are for PCI-E and the 3 on the other side are for other peripherals. Are they all really the same connections? Can I use any of them to power hard drives for instance? They all look the same except and can fit, the only difference being the modular cable you put in it. I've looked online and in reviews and it is never clear. Thanks.

Welcome to AnandTech chinolam.

A link or two for your PSU might be a good idea. I've never heard of a XG Magnum PSU.

To clarify, the picture on the website does show 2 molex connections on one side and 4 on the other. Mine has 2 and 3. I suppose that is the difference between the 600 and 500watt models.

If you just need one more 4 pin Molex, just get a Y-connection. It turns one into two.

I looked at the spec and several reviews but nothing is stated as to how the dual 12V is set-up.

Thanks for the help, Galv. I finally got a reply from tech support. They say that all the connections provide the same 5V power, so no problem with hooking up the hard drives or whatever to the other connections.

If anyone is thinking about this PSU, make sure it can fit into your case. It was too big for mine and then I had to buy a new case. Then I moved everything over and I guess I broke my motherboard cause it doesn't work now (even with the old psu). So I had to buy a new motherboard and cpu and ram to go along with it. Now having trouble with the new build, so I just ordered a new SATA drive and some cables. So I pretty much got a new computer, because I wanted to quiet it down a little in the first place.

The PSU in my new Antec P180 case still needed some work getting it into with some bending and stuff. I don't know if it was worth all the trouble, but maybe it was time for me to upgrade anyway?

I've been building pc's since you could pretty much buy seprate hardware. And this might sound stupid, but if at least 1 thing doesn't go really wrong on one of my builds. Weather it's my fault, or just a bad peice of hardware, something just doesn't feel right. I never expect a box I built to power on and boot properly the first try :) Look at this as a costly adventure. You and the one review I read both comment on how you had to use a new case cos it wouldn't fit in the first one. Sounds right up my alley, problems will surly arise if I try to put one of these in my rig =D
