Do I really have to register this card within 30 days of purchasing? How would they know to begin with?
 
well, if I was them, I'd ask for your original receipt when you send it in for warranty, and see if it was indeed registered within 30 days.

registration is GOOD FOR YOU!
Most companies (i have heard of newegg, frys, and best buy doing it) will repackage returned hardware so it looks new, and sell it to you as new. If you register right after buying it and notice it has already been registered, you can return it (during the 30 day period) for one that is really new.
