I don't like the XFX letters on on the rear vent. Looks tacky to me. And I worry if might hamper air flow a tiny bit.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. Someone, take out the dremmel.

I am stunned by the amount of hype the HD6870 is getting lately. I mean the real show is 6900 series :p

yes indeed RS

no idea why its getting THIS much attention
WE halfways know its not gonna be a REAL 6870. ITs gonna be a midrange card to replace the older 5850 and 5870.

The real showpiece should be the 5950/70/90.... IF THESE are the correct names. AMD could be just screwing everyone with their misinformation tactics.

Yeah, you are right. Since it's the mid range card, there probably won't be as much heat that needs to be pushed out anyway. Still looks tacky though.

I'm also waiting on the 6970 or any magical card Nvidia might pull out it's crevice before the end of the year.

I won't be able to help it. I'll know it's there. I'll be compelled everyday to grab my flash light, crawl under the desk, and look at it. It's the power of evil.

If the 6870 is merely a renaming of the 5770, then why would it need 2x 6 pin power connectors?

Also, I'm really digging that ATI is pushing for DisplayPort (and even better: Mini DisplayPort) on every single card that comes out. Shame on Nvidia for not helping to push the new display standard.

It's not a re-named 5770. It's just not the high-end 6-series replacement to the 5870, which everyone assumed would be called "6870". The real 6-series replacement for the 5870 is going to be the 6970. Confusing, I know...

edit: yeah, that XFX back plane looks like crap.

-The 6770 is supposed to be a straight up 5770, the 6870 is brand spanking new arch.

Cut them out . open it up . But this is a company that gets my support , The way NV treated them they deserve ATI fanbois support.

Look at the size of that 6870! If I didn't know any better, I would wager it to be the high-end single GPU card (almost looks like an HD5870). What if AMD is fooling everyone and HD6870 will come with 1920 SPs for $249? :)

Interesting, looks like they did move the PWM circuits from the plug side to in between the gpu and bracket. Might actually help the gpu run cooler, getting the cool air first instead of the pwm first.

interesting, the 6850 appears to also be 2 x 6pin pcie.

Well, the 6870 is only as long as the 5850. That backplane does look like higher airflow than the stock HD5xxxx one, but does look kinda tacky and it would have been nicer if they had just went with a standard high airflow backplane. Looks easy to modify, but then there's the double lifetime warranty which will probably get voided.

I am guessing we will see the monthly drivers come out around the same time as the cards.

XFX seems to have attended the Pick-Up Truck School for Product Design
