yikes... guess i held on to the 3 pairs of 4850/512 cards i have too long... will end up giving them away at these prices... xfired they still play most stuff fine...

but i think their day is about over... they had a good run...

Yeah, I think I dropped $200 on mine? I can't remember. Since its only worth like $40 used (if that) I must have missed the upgrade boat. But honestly I haven't really had any complaints about performance since I got it...still does the job for me.

It wouldn't let the order go through with another item in cart. -It said that the coupon was no good or not intended for me. I took their advise and emptied my cart, added the card and coupon by itself. It went through by itself just fine. Thanks, RussianSensation, for the good deal

wow, will this xfire with a 4870?

yes... but the clock is a bit slower, you get lowest common denominator performance... that said it will be a lot faster than your 4870 alone... they have really got the xfire scaling sorted out lately...

Is this better than a gt430 1gb for $50 that is on sale at fry's? I need a htpc card. Thx

a 430 gives you dx11 and is supposed to be more power efficient and quieter... but slower for dx10 gaming... 430 is probably better for htpc...

While I prefer a cooler that exhausts hot air, this cooler does a fine job.

The cooler flap came from a linked review of another 4850 with a different heatsink (tiny fan, single slot solution), and even running 80c 90c that card ran ok. The cooler on this card is similar to the successful design used on Intel processors: large fan blowing down over fins extending from an extruded aluminum core. MSI Afterburner can control this fan and the clock speeds. Stock fan profile never went above 22% while overclocked and stress testing. And as the fan speeds up the ram chips are blasted with air. It works.

P.S. Rebate payment was quick. I'd be all over this if I had a crossfire board.

Thanks for pointing that out. This may help other people who have problems with the coupon code.

Would you like to share your idle and load GPU temperatures for people to see with this style of fan & MSI afterburner? (assuming reasonable noise levels).

MSI Kombustor DX10 stress testing, 99% GPU load, at stock GPU/Mem/Fan settings, brings the GPU temp up to 73c, while the fan speeds up to only 22%. Idles around 38c in a large aluminum tower case, with minimal airflow from a controlled 92mm exhaust fan, and quiet 120mm psu.

Running MSI Afterburner set to underclock the cpu and ram for 2D @ 500c/800m. Fan is doing 12%, or less, set to Auto, GPU @38c. Maximum stress tested & stable individual overclocks, fan set to 100%, CPU 740 @65c, Mem 1170. Stress testing at 730c 1170m the stock fan profile hit 22%, GPU 70c. Settled on 705c 1115m for gaming. Think this card could do better if I had a little more voltage going to the GPU.

The reference cooler does suck on the 4850. My wife's PC at idle a 4850 will sit at 80C. Its crazy. I have made sure its got good contact and is clean its no help.... The funny thing is that at 80C its fan speed is only at about 40%, manually setting it to highier is amazingly annoying and only cools it down a few degrees.
