780 or aftermarket cooled 290. Dual GPU only makes sense when you're buying the current high end because it's really the only option for more performance. Buying dated dual GPU = bad decision. Microstutter will make your frame rate feel a good bit lower than what the counter displays. I can feel it on my Titans at times and Nvidia is supposedly better in that regard.

I don't notice micro stutter, but I guess it's a personal feeling. And while it's a "dated" card it's only a few features you get in the new cards. Both cards uses GCN 2.0, so the underlying technology is the same. Generally I agree that a single GPU is better than two, but if the price is right two GPU's can be a better solution. For me the extra performance, same price as R9 290X and the relatively low low power consumption of max 375W for a dual 7970 was worth it.

ok, here is my build so far.
i5 4690k (also getting i7 4770k for $280)
GPU - my budget is 450. getting xfx 7990 for 456 and gtx780 classfied for 480 both used)
mobo- asus rog maximus vi gene (used for $130)
Ram - 16 GB(2x8) g skill ares ($139)
PSU - evga supernova 850w modular($140)
storage - crosair 120gig SSD ($110)
cabinet - flexible
total- ~$1400 pls suggest any changes i should make.
don't need dvd drive and have some old laptop hdds if they can be used.
EDIT: I am not going for an extensive 2-3 montor setup. i will be using it on my 720p plasma for about 4 months n then will buy a good monitor. i do not intend to run games on high resolutions (full HD is enuff) but would prefer to have all the bells n whistles like AA etc.

Congrats on the new EVGA Classy.

1) Definitely step up to i7 4770K for $280. For a first time builder, you can keep that CPU platform for 4 years and just upgrade the GPU.

2) The EVGA PSU is a bit cheaper on NCIXUS.com with free shipping = $120 after rebate.

or on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA...er+supply+850w

3) For the SSD, go for 256GB Crucial MX100 for $112:
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX100-...=crucial+mx100

4) For the case, I like the NZXT 440 Steel for $100 with free shipping (after rebate and $10 off by August 20). I think this case is a steal for the price:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1146148&cm_re=nzxt_440-_-11-146-148-_-Product

You get 3x 120mm fans at the front, 1x140mm fan at the rear, a nice window and room to go watercooling down the line if you want to.

These are top notch case characteristics that will give you a lot of upgrade room:

GPU Clearance Without HDD Cage: 406.2mm
CPU Cooler: 180mm

Should you consider overclocking the CPU down the line, consider one of the TRUE Spirit 140 coolers. These provide 95% of the performance of Noctua NH-D15 for half the price, for $40-45:

for cooling i am thinking of liqued cooling as gtx 780 classic has blower thingy and since in micro atc cabbie they will be close to each other i don't want it to suck in all the hot air from cpu cooler fan.what say?
i've made note of all the suggestions you've mention here. i got newegg promo mail with SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III for $170. is it worth spending $50 odd to upgrade to this?
also i have some 2.5" hdds from my old laptop and ps3 can they be somehow used in the pc? i know they have different voltage requirements but there must be some way.

No. The good budget SSD's are way better value. Personally, for me, I'd get the Samsung 840 EVO, but the Crucial MX 100 is also a good choice.

Hello all guys today im going to share a very infomative site with you it wii be very helpful to you :) :) :)

AMD Radeon R9 285 is scheduled for the end of August or beginning of September. According to SweClockers, AMD has finally came to conclusion how to name upcoming graphics cards based on Tonga processor. As you know that Tonga is simply Tahiti GPU with shorter memory bus. Tonga will entirely replace Tahiti-based cards in next few months (R9 280X, R9 280).

I don't like that chassis at all. For starters a 158mm CPU heatsink clearance height is a no go in my books. It doesn't look classy and I don't see anything special about its airflow characteristics. See how much Fractal R4 costs for you.

i am not into looks. i need cool case with good dust filtering. specially small pet hair.
fractal R4 costs $220. D:
nxzt has good presence here. but 440 is out of stock. these are available.
