XFX or BFG FX5900?

I have decided on getting the FX5900 adapter. It appears that nVidia is making the turn and I never liked ATI. I am now trying to determine which brand to replace my Ti200 with. From what I understand, both are made with 2.2ns memory, have the same default clock speeds. Is there any reason I should choose one over the other? The price difference is $27, but that is of little difference to me.

AdTHANKSvance for replies. I am making the purchase today, so quick responses would be greatly appreciated.

Well both are pretty well known,I have read good reviews from both brands, anyway I would decide on the software bundle between the two and take price into account as well, that should give you the answer on which one.

I broke down and paid the extra few dollars for the BFG. From the reviews, there are few problems with the BFG. I read the story about the guy who had major problems with the XFX. Irregardless, I am sure they are both fine. I got it for $218 at GameVE.com. I used the coupon code "NEWLAND" for 3% off plus free 2-3 day shipping. Can't beat that too easily.

You could have gone to Best buy and had it for $200 after a $50 rebate. An extra $20 won't break the bank though.

he could of done that, but I tried and every best buy in my area was sold out and didn't expect to restock the card for at least 2-3 weeks. in my mind that is pretty weak of best buy, and it gave me a chance to give someone else my business. The 3% off was a darn good deal, and now he doesn't have to go through the hassle of a rebate.

I think you just did :).

RMRF, I was only pointing out the BB deal, I knew you had a reason for not buying it that was perfectly acceptable.

First, IRREGARDLESS is a real word. Trust me, I had a B!TCH for an English teacher, but hott as Hell. Plus you can go check on www.distionary.com.

Second, I appreciate everyone pointing out that the BFG is at BestBuy for $249.99 + $50 rebate. I did know that existed, but add 7% sales tax and that is another $17.50. So, for $267.50 I could have gotten the BFG FX5900 today, IFF it was in stock (which it is not). So, I pay $225 and get it on Friday with the rest of my gear. can't complain about that.

Thanks for all the feedback. I hope I made the right decision.

I'm guessing "distionary" is not a real word either ;)

And if you do look it up on www.dictionary.com it says it's a nonstandard word.

Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing.

Most of our modern english was at one time non-standard, and language is constantly evolving. Therefore in a couplke of years it most likely will be an accepted, 'proper' word.

Let's hope not. There's no need for more informal language like this IMO.

Well never mind what I originally posted. You sprung for the BFG Tech. You should enjoy that card. It looks real nice. I went the cheaper route last week and picked up the xfx 5900. This one is also a good card.

Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

I cancelled the order on the BFG for $225 and got the XFX for $199. BIG MISTAKE. The XFX I got is V2.2. The minute I installed it, I had massive artifacts at POST. After farting around with different BIOS settings and tweaking, the problem never was resolved. I have RMA'd the adapter back to Newegg. Now, I am finding out that the V2.2 adapters are not the standard 400/800. They are oc'd 400/700 (I can't prove this because the card was shipped back yesterday). That oc'ing is probably what caused the artifacting at POST. Now that I have emailed the information to Newegg, I am not sure what they are going to do. Right now I want a full credit to go to a different adapter. I would not trust XFX for anything at the moment. The frustration they have caused me is mind-boggling. I will keep you posted of the status.

XFX = formerly known as pine = cheap brand
BFG = formerly known as visiontek = quality brand
