Hi all, I have been out of the game for awhile do to other adventures and I have a question. Unable to search a forsure answer, so im posting it here.

I have an older? XFX i790 MB and have one HIS 6950 VC in it currently. From what I found I need to find some older possibly hacked drivers in order to put 1 or 2 more ati cards in and run xfire with an SLI board? I have heard all answers, such as it will just work, it wont work, or custom drivers. Does anyone have the most correct answer to this? Thanks in advance.

I guess why bother is the first question?

You can just about double your performance overall by getting out of the socket 775 platform and keeping the card you have now, as opposed to buying 2 more of them.

Like seriously....I dumped my xfx790i ultra when I had 3 9800GTX Black editions attached to it.

I completely understand where you are coming from, and agree. I really do need to get with the times. My pocket just doesnt agree with the times.

However maybe if i explained my intentions a little better... This is an old computer, and im looking to strickly mine with it, no games just work. With the mining these days being increasingly difficult i figured i would look into better results with minimal costs. Does it even need to comunicate via crossfire/sli to use the 3 pcie slots? I just figured trying to keep costs down just adding 2 extra cards. Still a waist of time?

Thanks again, i totally thought i was going to get the "use the search" responce.

Well yeah, I was going to something more normal-ish with two cards per system, and this was pretty early on. Added an FPGA mining cluster to that - actually sold them for $300 more each than I paid for them o_O

Damn this kinda sucks, I have another sli board only. When did they make it possible to use either amd/nvidia? Do people even do multiple gpu's anymore?

I really don't get what you're going after.
Mining = SLI / Xfire doesn't enter into the discussion /period

Well, i'm trying to figure out what i'm going to do with these computer components that are out of date today.
Guess it not worth upgrading them, and i'm better off starting from scratch.
Then since they aren't worth anything, shall I just turn them into mining pigs.
Or should I just use them for some target practice.
