XFX HD 5770 intermittent?

Hi all

I bought an XFX HD 5770 from the NCIX outlet store on Ebay in mid Dec '10 and have had some "intermittent" issues with it ever since.

I have had contacted XFX, and they have been very helpful. The card has been stable since Feb 2 after checking/unchecking the Lock Overdrive box, but has once again crashed my rig.

What happens is when playing a game, doesn't seem to matter which type, the card will quite suddenly cause the screen to go blank and the fan on the card spins up to what can only be called Hoover vacuum speeds!

I have reseated the card several times and have proven that it is the card, I think, by reinstalling my ole 9800GTX+. I am using the 10.12 drivers with the old CCC, as I thought it might be the new beta one causing the trouble.

As with the last few times this has happen, the computer won't POST. The is not POST screen, and the computer basically hangs until it shuts down.

Any suggestions?

man... ur running stock speeds on ur 5770? I thought those cards where like OC champs, you should be running 920-1ghz+ core, and 1350-1400+ mem speeds at stock voltage.

and ontop of that its unstable... RMA it 🙂
 
ya, I am running stock speeds. The XFX staff did mention RMA if they were unable to fix the problem, so that may be the way I am going.
