XFX GTX 260 640 M XXX

Finally some OC variant reviews. GT200 scaling is quite impressive in that review, very close to 1:1 relative to core clocks like G80. That's only an 11% overclock too, many users are getting 17-20% on a GTX 260 with ease.

I'm getting the eVGA-GTX260-SC via the recent discount outbreak.
Just wondering how this card overclocks as it is already factory o/c'ed?
Any idea?

Its one of the lesser overclocked models at 602MHz, I'd shoot for FTW speeds first at 666MHz core, then go up from there. It actually looks like GTX 260 users are getting consistently higher results than GTX 280, similar to what happened with G80. 650-700MHz on the core is a reasonable expectation with ~1400-1450 shader, 1200-1250 memory.

Check this review out of the eVGA GTX 260 FTW Edition - overclockersclub.com

They got a core-762/memory-1208/shaders-1606 overclock out of the FTW card and just look at those benches.

Troll status: Confirmed.

Why is that? When it's a true statement. Particularly with 8x AA.

Anyway. No point in getting these overclocked versions as they are really the same as stock 260 cards. Just a higher price tag for factory overclocking. Long as you research which has what memory and different core version you shouldn't waste more money on overclocked 260.

I saw one of their reviews a 8600gts was beating a 3850 in FEAR. I wouldn't trust overclockersclub. That site is very pro Nvidia.

Whatever the case between GTX260 and HD4870; the war between ATi/AMD and nVidia hasn't been this close since the launch of the X1950XTX... The latter which is, however old, still a good card even by today's standards. Especially considering the tech.

ATi/AMD fans don't have to sulk about performance; same goes for nV fans (I refuse to call people nVidiots). I am personally pro-AMD but if the opposition is faster, you cannot look beyond the fact. Same goes for Core2 vs Phenom. PhenomX3 might be great value but I will wait for the next generation before I upgrade my X2.

Nobody can disagree though, that they have excelled in designing the R7xx. R600 might have been a complete failure imo but they got it right this time. At least they're selling a decent number of cards.

Exactly
