Awesome card, although I must note that it is FREAKIN LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

It comes with a mixed copper and aluminum cooler (NOT the one shown in the picture) that sounds like a hairdryer, and there are ZERO aftermarket coolers for the 6600GT AGP version. So don't jump if you have a quiet system.

tempting, now i can't decide between this and waiting for a slight sale on a 6800 vanilla... AGAIN

Best price for ANY AGP 6600GT thus far. I got the card for $215 shipped from Mwave and it's great. I have both my LCD's running DVI.

Unplug the tiny fan(s). Mount a quiet (perhaps undervolted) 80mm or 92mm Panaflo L1A toward the heatsink and you have a quiet cooling solution.

Nah if i'm going to fix it i'll do it the right way. Should be plenty of aftermarket coolers on the way soon.

A friend of mine bought this same card from Mwave last month. Runs Doom3 and HL2 silky smooth. Much better than the 9800pro.

The 2D looks pretty sharp especially when using a DVI cable with ClearType enabled.

Performance comparison here (pci-e versions roughly comparable to agp +-1%):
Text

It's able to run all the current generation stuff without any problems at good framerates. Checking out some of the forums, the big game of 2005 will be Battlefield 2.. according to those beta testing BF2, Doom3 and HL2 are far more demading of a video card.

True, but the newegg deal is $19 more. In some states, that's the tax difference. And of course, with newegg, you get the Dual DVI, which is great for some of us. Also, most BBs seem to be OOS, or at least the employees are hiding it.

Yeah, it is one loud mofo. I'm not obsessed with noise levels, but having my computer on now is really unbearable at night, I have to have my air filter on so its white noise cancels it out.

I've got the original that IS shown in the pictures, and the noise levels are quite tolerable. I mean, when I first bough an Athlon system, I made sure I got the best cooling with a 7200rpm thermaltake orb. Really haven't bought anything else from thermaltake since. The new Zalman fan is supposed to be released in a few days I think, I'm ready to get one of them.

i just got this card last week. paid 214 shipped at chiefvalue. the new heatsink is nice...it makes a lil noise but it doesnt bother me. gpu idle temp is 51c and it gets up in the low 60s under load. great card, jump on this deal.

my doom3 scores using the newest whql drivers 66.93 i think
1024x768 no AA ULTRA detail = 67.8 FPS
1024x768 no AA high detail = 75 FPS
1600x1200 no AA high detail = 45 FPs
1600x1200 no AA ULTRA detail = 35.7 FPS

I am sooo tempted right now...
:D

What processor do you have with that setup?
Im still running my good ole ATI 8500 (non LE) 128mb here with a P4 2.6. It has served me very well but of course the new games are starting to chop up on it at times at the settings I want it at.

I know. CA Tax + shipping kills this deal for me. Amazon has the MSI with VIVO for $221.34. Not a hot deal, but not bad either. Might be worth it if you have a certificate code from their last electronics offer. I'm not buying yet.

For the less demanding gamers NVIDIA is releasing the 6600 AGP (non-GT) in Feb. Supposed to be priced at $149-199. Not sure if that's worth it when the 6600 PCIe is as low as $120.

I'm from CA and I still ordered it. The dual DVI sold me (17" Hitachi and 20" Dell 2001fp) and the fact it's from Newegg always sells me. I'm obsessed with their shipping. This deal is pretty hot for you non-CA/NJ people. For you CA people, still pretty darn warm.

edit: They have a 6800GT from eVGA on sale too. Granted it's $377 + $2 shipping, it's kind of lukewarm-ish. Only $50 more than the microcenter deal if you think about it... but that was crazy and they have a 400+ backorder list haha.

For those who live in CA or NJ, or anyone who wants this card after Newegg ends their sale (possibly me), Monarch has it for $209 shipped. Text

They've had this price for the last week at least, because I've been looking everyday since I hope to buy a 6600GT AGP soon.

EDIT 1/19 - Now $225!!! .... Guess I'll be waiting some more...
