I just received my XFX FX5900 adapter. The installation instructions were basic. Uninstall the current driver, shutdown and remove old card, install new adatper, and restart. I followed the instructions completely. Once I installed the new adater and attached the poswer plug to it, I plugged the computer and turned it on. Immediately, there was video corruption all over the POST screen. Letting the system start into windows, the corruption is still there.
What I see is flashing vertical lines across the monitor, ascii characters flashin on the screen, and all falshing in different colors. Any ideas? Bad adapter?
Installing my original adapter, the system goes back to normal and operates flawlessly. I have contemplated reinstalling WinXP, but with the corruption at POST, I don't think that will make a difference.
Leadtek K7NCR18D ProII
AMD Barton 2500+
Mushkin 2x256 PC3200 Black Level II
GeForce Ti200 (Works)
XFX FX5900 (Fails with corruption all over)
I cleared CMOS which appeared to help the corruption issues. I then decided to reinstall WinXP. On the blue text screens, when it is copying files, the corruption came back. Since this is completely out of the realm of WinXP and nVidia drivers, this has to be a problem with the adapter, IMHO.
Windows XP Installation failed 3 times at Registering Components. I would take this as a sign that the adapter is bad, but there is on eother piece of info that cropped up afte rI did get XP installed. After updating the driver with the one that came with the adapter, I had a window popup stating that the voltage to the adapter will not allow the adapter to run at the levels. It was going to lower the performance to coincide with the voltage. I am not sure if this is the entire issue or not.
