XFX FX5800 $109????

according to this, and the VGA chart 3, its a decent deal. this is the 5800non ultra, aint the ultra. you just have to deal with the noise of the fan, and i believe it will run the dx9 games in dx8. other than that it aint half bad.
 
If it wasn't for the weak attempt at being a dx9 card, it would have probably gone down as the best dx8 level card ever. 😉

It says its a 256 bit memory interface, i thought the 5800 used a 128?

Yeah that's gotta be a typo; the 5800 series has a 128-bit memory bus.

The fan of that card is not loud, it is the same as the fan on reference 5900s.

Every 5800NU I have heard of, and owned, OCs to U speeds easily.

There is no good performing DX9 card for $109., and this card will far outperform any $109 card that is better than it at DX9 at all other games.

My $.02

P.S. the memory is 128bit DDR2 at 400MHz


 
im thinking of buying that card, and just keeping it. Shrink wrapped, never open it. Then sell it 5-10 years from now as the only worlds working...DUSTBUSTER!!!. Thinkin bout gettin a good 500-1000 dollars for it. The legend to be that was as crappy as it gets.....a tragic story of how nVidia lost all props to ATi when it needed support most.....man a card like that is a steal for 100 bucks. Around that price, they also sell 9600pros, that may be a better buy.

I doubt a 9600 Pro will beat that in much 😉 and BTW, that has a 5900 heatsink on it, meaning its not a dustbuster, sorry to ruin your future business plans.

:roll: the 5800 non ultra does NOT have a loud fan, and if you honestly think a 9600pro will beat that card you should end your life now.
 
wait a second. FX 5800 is DX9 base? but it run game better in DX8 then DX9?

im confused

this reallly seem like a good buy according to 3d mark 03

So the 5800NU wins half the benchmarks against the 9700 non pro, that costs $40 more at least on Pricewatch. If you compare to the other $100 cards, it totally owns them all, with the exception of the few DX9 games you'd have to play in DX8.1.
IMO, no $100 video card can play Dx9 games in DX9. When you've got the 9600Pro running Far Cry at 22fps average at 10X7 0X0X, you can't really buy it for the DX9?
 
Basically this card is weak in dx9 (although better then anything around a 9600p and below) and stronger in dx8 and opengl titles. Its well worth the moeny.
 
I just received this very card. I will be installing tomorrow night and let you know. I'm thrilled to get it. You also get a 12 button gamepad with dual analog sticks with it. The bundle comes with Commanche 4, Ghost Recon, Power DVD.

Graphics Core 256 bit, Memory Interface 128 bit

Damn, that is pretty cheap for a new 5800 NU. Although 5800 NU is weak at DX9, it should be a pretty good DX8/OpenGL card.
 
i think this card has good performance/ price, but i don't get why does it suck on DX9? isnt the FX line has DX9 support?

You must not have seen the benchmarks I posted above cawchy. The 9700np beat it in half of them, which is not "beating it". (and the 9700np couldn't even run one bench due to driver issues) The 5800NU is roughly equivalent to a 9700np.

Exactly, for newer games the 9700 would be better, only problem is, is that its REALLY hard to beat $108 for a retail boxed item from newegg.

The closest competition would be a refurbed 9600XT from newegg for the same price, or possibly a refurbed 9700Pro from crucial.com for $129, but the kicker in both cases is that you have to take the risk with a refurbed vs retail box with all the extra software and even hardware (the control pad)

What would really be killer is if you could mod this into a Quadro if you needed a powerful workstation graphics card, which is a steal @ $108
