I was wondering about the XFX dual DVI output on the 6600GT. Does this allow one to run two different monitors at the same time?

For instance, could I be running my Windows Desktop on one monitor, and have a full screen game going in another monitor? That'd be great for keeping track of other computer activities (IM and such), bringing up game manuals and web sites, while playing a full screen game at the same time!!!

Also, what of the other cards? I noticed many have a DVI and Analog CRT output on the same card. Could these also be used to set up a two monitor scenario like above?

Finally, if this is feasable, what (if any) hit on video performance in a game would this cause?

Thanks.

Yes, you can run dual monitors. This feature has been around for awhile including the previous generation ATI/Nvidia cards. Dual DVI is nice because you can get the best quality out of a set of LCD monitors. Most other cards have DVI and VGA so if you want to run dual LCD monitors you will install the supplied adapter on the VGA port but this will have reduced quality compared to the native DVI port. You can do the same with a set of VGA ports also with an adapter to go from DVI to VGA.

You will be able to run your desktop across both monitors but if you game it will only work on one monitor and the other will go blank.

yes and this is one of the reason I think XFX is good, so far I only see Gainward and XFX offering dual DVI on various products, while others are still sticking to DVI and VGA.
