XFX Core 550 PSU fan noise?

I am just considering a different power supply from my Corsair TX650 V2. I love my PSU and corsair are great but, the fan is a little nosier than id like. It makes me cringe to have to sell the PSU off but, I guess an XFX core is also seasonic and I dont really need 650 watts of power...

Anyways, my question is, for someone who owns an XFX Core PSU, how is the fan noise? I was also maybe considering an Antec earthwatts dealta unit.

My new XFX 650W Core Edition just arrived today. I'll install and test it on Saturday, so I'll post again then.

I don't have a core edition (XXX instead), but XFX PSU's have terrible fans. Its funny that they are based off Seasonic designs...but many of their units over the last few years have had craptacular fans and/or a craptacular fan controller. Ticks, chirps, and overall a rough sound are what becomes bothersome....the actually fan speed is very low, and if they didn't make the funny noises they would be very quiet. My fan ticks...its faint, but because the rest of my system is incredibly quiet, I can hear it.

If the core edition uses the same 135mm Adda fan as many of their other units, then don't count on it being quiet for very long. Ticking will develop in short order. It might use a different fan however....but if possible, find out.

If you really want a low noise PSU, then go straight to the source and get your hands on a nice Seasonic unit. Even their loudest PSU's are still very very quiet. I miss my old Seasonic S-12, that was a truly quiet unit. The core seems to be based off the S-12v2...so perhaps there is hope for the fan?

I wish ya luck!

I own a Core 850w, its almost a year old. I've had zero issues with it, pretty sure I've never heard its fan. Not yet anyway, and I've probably loaded it up a decent amount with overclocked 2500K and SLI 570s or CF 6950s.

No complaints from me.

Sounds good. Thanks.
I've now installed and tested it, and it's running smoothly right now (fan downwards). You can hear the fan when you're idling, but in my case it's just because I run my other fans at low RPM - under load it's not the loudest component in my system.

The fan sound itself is very smooth and clean, nor can I detect any side noises - no coilwhine or ticking. The cable lengths are ok for a mid tower case, although you do need to pay attention to the cable management if you like a neat look, because there's a lot of cable to manage.

Overall it provides excellent value for the money spent. I can honestly recommend this PSU, no complaints here.

If you don't mind the cost, Seasonic X-650 is reportedly very silent.

My system doesnt come close to 650 watts so that was one of the reasons I was considering selling my corsair too heh. I run a GT 440 with an non-oc'd i5-2500k heh. Thats like a 300-400 watt psu max. So I was just considering something quieter and cheaper in the 400-500 watt range but its got to be good quality too. And yeah, id love a seasonic but they tend to be more than I want to spend.

The XFX only caught my eye cause they are supposedly seasonic internals and always fairly cheap price wise.

I am in no rush so, I may just wait for an Antec neo eco or something of that nature to come on sale again.

Ah, yes, I forgot we were talking about the XFX 550W unit. Doh.

And yes, the Core Editions are made by Seasonic, based on S12II. I'm happy with mine, so if you can get a good deal on a 550W unit, go for it.

Update on this... the fan controller on my XFX 650W Core Edition malfunctioned, and the PSU fan was stuck at about 80% of the max. RPM. I got a refund, and I'm running a cheap Corsair backup PSU for the time being.
