XFX 8800 GS to Asus 8800 GT

I'm not a big fan of XFX. I would go with the Asus card. I doubt you will see that much of a difference between the two cards. It could be that I am partial to Asus in situation like this but from past experience they make an excellent product. From looking at the price range...check out the EVGA 9600 GT... about 2@ bucks more and a better card IMO.

8800gt is about 20% faster or so than 8800gs. 9600gt is about equal to a 8800gs.

That 8800gt is a very good deal. You should get that over 9600gt or the 8800gs.

If you afford the 8800 GT, then there is no sense in thinking about what to get. It's plain and simple faster then 8800 GS and 9600 GT. And it also has a very good cooler.

Is there a specific model I should get? There is an ECS with a huuuge heatsink/fan on it. Or, is that asus fine?

Asus is a better brand then ECS. But I haven't really heard about someone complaining or having problems about an ECS card.

I have both 8800gt and 9600gt and without benching I couldn't tell them much apart and I'm guessing 8800GS isn't that much different either.

I'll most likely build a new computer in 3 years, when I graduate with my BSN in nursing. By then, I'm sure everything will be completely different

Relax, whichever path you choose I'm sure you'll be happy with. They're ALL powerful cards at the resolution you play at, don't matter which one you decide on. Good luck.

Ah. Well I'm guessing an 8800 gt is a much better choice than a 9600

Yes yes Now I need to find out which one to get from newegg. Although, there is a 512 gts for 160 after rebates, but I've heard the difference between gt and gts isn't large, especially at 1440x900

New GTS is as powerful as 8800GTX. GTS would be recommened for resolutions of 1600x1200 or 1680x1080 or higher... (remember one thing, you can`t never have enough computing power so buy the fastest you can afford - that`s how I go by)

Since you already have an 8800GS, an 8800GT would be a waste of money, IMO.

Because in the end you'll probably end up spending over $50 when all is said and done to upgrade to the 8800GT if reselling the GS. So over 50%+ to spend for a 20% performance increase... not worth it. Also, new video cards are being released soon, so you may be interesting in looking at those. But if you do get a 8800GT, that ECS one is a good choice. I have the ECS 9600GT with the Accelero on it, and it runs passive (but has a good amount of airflow over in my P182) and never breaks 60C... amazing cooler.
