XFX 7950 card incompatible with Gigabyte DS4 motherboard?

and yet the card works fine in my old PC (X2 3800+/K8NGM2-FID).

the Bios on the DS4 was the F2, I have since updated it to the F5, but haven't tried the card since.

currently running my noisy MSI 7900GT in the case which is annoying because i specified all passive components.

anyone come across this incompatibility between an XFX 7950 and a Gigabyte 965P board previously?

regards

i have just read the hexus review of the Abit A9Pro 965 board where it mentions an optional molex connection on the board to supply more power to the PCI-Express slot and realised that my DS4 board has the same molex slot.

i hadn't connected it because i didn't know what it was for, could this be the cause of the graphical corruption on my XFX 7950, a lack of power to properly run the card?

the 7900GT runs fine without it, but maybe the higher clockspeeds and extra memory require extra power?

whadaya think?

after updating to the F5 Bios and attaching the motherboard PCIe molex connector the PC now works fine with the XFX 7950.

cheers. 🙂
