The X1900XT 256mb is the better card by a small amount even if it were for the same price, plus ATI's drivers have the advantage in both XP & especially Vista.

I looked at reviews again, and it proves that 7900GTX is faster in most of the games at 1600x1200 (the res. i play at)...
Im confused now -.-

Depends on what games you play.

But overall, i would take the 7900 GTX in this case, since it features a very quiet stock cooler, & the extra RAM may come in handy for newer games or very high resolution gameplay.

That being said, bear in mind the X1900 XT will be faster with many games still, albeit with an annoyingly loud stock cooler (IMHO).

Which games...?
I read reviews and 7900GTX only had lower FPS in a game i dont play, so i didnt take note of which game it was... and the differnce was less than 3 fps...

Again, This is the 256mb version im comparing with...

I also vote for the X1900XT, just seems to have that little bit of extra ommph for pixel shading in future titles(not to mention better filtering quality).

X1900XT, better pixel shading performance, this is a Pixel Shader era, no longer matters the pixel fillrate bruteforce found in the 7900 series.

xt will have better texture filtering as well, but either card is a decent buy at those prices. the performance difference is really inconsequential.

the xt will be a bit louder, but thermaltake makes a
nice cooler if that becomes an issue

I agree with n7. The 7900GTX is still a very solid card, providing good performance across various benchmarks, provide you with overall better AA quality and all in all its a very nice card. The stock cooler is a bonus, and the power consumption of the card is very acceptable.

Now wheres BFG10K to testify his experiences with his 7900GTX.

Be careful where you get your review information... any sites that show the 7900GTX with a large advantage are very likely testing with the Nvidia driver set lower then high quality, otherwise you'll find that as I said performance is very close & image quality is slightly better for ATI between those two cards, plus the ATI's support HDR +AA. Also (for the moment) ATI has better & more compatible drivers.... the GTX's advantages are a quieter HS/Fan & slightly lower heat output... neither one would be a mistake, but personally I'd buy the X1900XT.

Yes, at higher resolutions you will benefit from the extra memory. Get the 512mb.

Only a few review sites test the 7-series cards with high quality filtering settings, otherwise you'll get what called "texture crawling", but with higher performance. Overall, the two cards are close in performance, but the 7900gtx is not worth more than the x1900xt 256. The main advantages of the x1900xt are:
- HDR + AA support
- angle-independent AF
The main advantage of the 7900gtx:
- quieter stock cooler

Have fun, just remember to use driver cleaner between installs.
