I found an Instock 7900 GT today at a local computer wholesaler.
The only issue is for me its an XFX which I havent ever delt with.
is that a deal killer?
does XFX stack up card/quality wise to BFG and EVga.. or are the a sub par provider like PNY...

any insite or reviews on current gen XFX products would be appreciated.. im supposed to pick up the 7900 GT at 5 today

Nothing wrong with PNY or XFX. Both reliable, the PNY ones just tend to be cheaper. XFX used to have a lot of cutomer support issues but they seem to have turned a new page lately.

What a crock of ******, typical of your posts. PNY are famous for being a crappy 3rd tier card maker and should be avoided at all costs. OP if you're going to get a 7900 card stick with eVGA or BFG only.

well Ive had horrible luck myself with PNY.. 2 dead cards in 3 years...
my 6800 GT only lasted 1.5 years before it toasted and PNY wont warranty it..
so here I am building a whole new system to replace AGP...

so I cant find any 7800GTs in stock anywhere.. and the only 7900 is the XFX..
anyone else have anything positive to say about XFX?

I'm on my 4th PNY card without any problems. My dad, my brother & 3 of my colleagues all have PNY cards running with no issues.

Yeah I bet you're on your 4th RMA'd PNY card but you'd never admit it. The OP himself has already stated the notoriously crappy PNY cards have given him problems over the years yet here you are like a loyal nVidiot recommending any pile of crap card you can to score a sale.

No RMA's, no Bios Flashes (unlike eVGA), no fried cards. I gain NOTHING from anyone purchasing PNY, nVidia or anything else for that matter. Every company gets a few dodgy cards, eVGA, BFG, PNY, XFX etc all get them. It's luck of the draw, I and those around me just happen to have gotten good cards, like many others.

OP, many people have bought the XFX 7900's so you should be fine with them. If you can find eVGA or BFG go for it but as you may have guessed, supply is limited to non existent.

Yeah I guess we should take your biased nVidiot word for PNY greatness over that of a large number of customers (including the OP) that have been burned by their low qualiity cards.

Yeah, double lifetime in fact, which means you can sell the card and the buyer can re-register it and continue the warranty.

my last PNY 6800GT card was great. It ran Overclocked to 425/1150 and I never had ANY issues.
XFX had a bad rep back in the 6X00 days but the seem to have change quite a bit with the 7X00 line up. I'd def buy one. And like the Professor says XFX does have a 2X lifetime warrenty.

It's maybe the best 7900GT out there in it's OC'd version. The one I'll be getting soon (I hope) ;)

yeah i'm getting the XFX 550/1630 card. XFX wasn't so great in the 6800 days (so i heard) but it seems they've beefed up their customer service now. A double lifetime warranty on a nice stock OC sold me on it.

I bought an XFX 7900 GT Extreme edition, I have no complaints whatsoever and will be buying another so I can run them in SLI mode.

PNY has a long history of shoddy cards, poor return and warranty policies. Some of the examples of shoddy quality is rattling broken off components at the bottom of the box, heatsink/fan failures, poor contact with hs.

PNY has a bad warranty policy in his age of hot running cores. They have a blanket 1 yr warranty on all card except for the 79xx which is grossly insufficient and their lifetime warranty is a fake one which covers production lifetime only.

http://www.pny.com/support/warranty/?prod=verto
"Lifetime Replacement warranty does not cover items out of production......"
"Outdated technology is not covered by lifetime warranty....."

There are better manufacturers instead of pny to get your card from.

Its quiet enough that I don't hear it, my entire computer runs fairly quiet in the Antec P-180.

With all my fans set to "low" my ambient temp is 32C and the video card core fully loaded is around 59C. I'm going to buy a 80mm fan for the active cooling duct in the P180 though, I don't plan to change anything on the card. BTW I am not overclocking.

I can't hear mine at all; it's a lot quieter than the Leadtek 6800 I was using.

Yep, I got an XFX 7900GT Extreme Edition too. 520/750 default clocks and with my new Zalman VF700 CU I can get up to 553/822. Gaming is awesome with this card. And at 1280x1024 I can run all the games I've got in HQ mode (driver setting) and I get no shimmering or so little I don't notice it.

I was hesitant to go with XFX initially also, they had lots of problem early on in the 6x00 generation. But they seem to have all their ducks in a row now with the double lifetime warranty and all.

I'm a quiet computing type of guy, I'll admit that I'm anal about that. The sound did bother me, so I upgraded the cooling. I did a careful job of it, and now my temps. are 10C lower and the sound is cut into a tenth at the most.

But compared to the newer ATI coolers, the stock 7900GT cooler is small and very quiet.
