so i'm trying to figure out what's going on with this xfx 7600gt. using win7 x64 and nv 295.73 (also tried 295.51). in any case, the fan is stuck at 100%. nvinspector and rivatuner don't do anything. i mean, i can change the setting, but nothing changes.

i searched on google and found others have the same problem with this particular xfx model, but they were mostly using winxp. makes a difference? anyway, i tried searching xfx support, but couldn't find anything on these old models. i was intending to see if they had released a newer bios which addresses this problem.

any ideas on how to fix it? or one else have this card and have the fan working normally? maybe i can snag the bios from you.

thx

I'm guessing that your fan plugs into a 2-pin connector on the graphics card and that your video card's bios CANNOT control the fan speed. I had a 9500GT like this. The only way I found to reduce the fan speed was to 7-volt it. I tried to 5-volt it, but the fan wouldn't spin.

Unplug the fan connector from the gpu and connect it to a molex-to-3-pin power connector. Be sure to plug it into the side that has the two wires. Then, 7-volt the molex connector following these instructions: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article6-page1.html

Be sure to monitor your gpu temps to make sure they don't get too high during gaming. My 9500GT was fine, but that doesn't mean that your 7600GT will be fine. In other words, don't sue me if doing the above fries your card :)

haha that looks right interesting! Probably not gonna try it though unless I can dig up a spare psu and some extra fans.
