XFX 6800nu High Temps?

I picked up an XFX 6800nu yesterday locally. One thing I've noticed is how high the temp seems to be, atleast to me. It idles at around 72*-73*C; running ATI-tool scanning for artifacts for about a 1/2 hour it CREEPS up to about 95*C.

Is this something to be worried about, or pretty much normal. BTW my room temp is about 75*F or 24*C.

95C is pretty high. I like to keep my 6800GT (@ Ultra speeds) under 90C if at all possible. You might be able to reduce your temps by re-doing the heatsink and applying AS5 (instructions here)...I did that a few months back and my load temps dropped from 105C to 90C...

Edit: 72C is also pretty damn high for an idle temp - back when I was having heat problems (heatsink was dusty and the thermal paste has turned to crap after a year and a half), I still idled at "only" 66C...that definitely indicates heatsink problem to me (unless I suppose your case airflow is extremely poor?)

Something happened... I think it might be the new drivers that helped..? I updated from like version 61.72 drivers to the current 84.21. The card is now idleing at 58*-62*C, and load doesn't really get over 80*C.

Maybe the fan wasnt on full with older drivers?

It was a driver issue. I had the same problem with the 61.72 drivers but updated to 81.98s and the problem disappeared.

Everything seems to be pretty steady at these temps, I'd even venture to say normal. Atleast with this awful cooler that xfx put on this card. I noticed the heatsink is flat black, wtf?

impemonk, do you have an xfx 6800? If so, are these about your temps?

Thanks
