I just installed a XFX 6600GT in my sys but when i try to run 3DMark05 to get my scores my monitor shutsdown and goes to power save mode and the only way for me to get my display back is to do a hard shutdown and start back up. I have not tried to play any games yet cus i think the same thing will happen. i have installed the latest drivers i can find (76.50) and also upgraded the bios and chipset on my motherboard and still no luck.
I am not a big gamer and this is the first performance video card i buy so im not too familiar with this stuff. i think it may be a power issue but i have an antec SL400 power supply (400W) and i thought that was supposed to be enought. please let me know what to do.

System:
Intel P4 3.0ghz 512 L2 hyperthreading
Intel D865GRH mother board
1 G kingston Hyper X (4 x 256)
1 x 120G SATA drive
2 x 146G SCSI drives
1 x 80G IDE drive
CD burner
DVD burner
Adaptec PCI SCSI controller
XFX 6600GT AGP Video card
Antec 400W power supply ( antec SL400)
4 x Case Fans
floppy disk drive

Welcome to the forums. You need to have alot of amperage on the 12 volt rail of your power supply. Sounds like it is not getting enough juice.

make sure that the card has a dedicated cable connected to it....no cdroms, hdds, etc etc

I have the same card and the cooler is attached with a crappy 2 pin design, my best guess is it has detached from proper contact with the GPU, Try pressing it down firmly and evenly to try to get better contact then leave the case side off with a fan blowing on it. If it passes the whole test suite then you know it is heat related. You do have a lot of stuff running ont hat PSU so unplugging any non-critical hardware and testing that way will help determine if it is a power issue. Good luck and LUK how it goes.

Does it happen the instant you launch into the tests for 3dmark05? If so, I'll bet the test is launching you into a resolution and refresh rate that your monitor can't handle. This would cause your monitor to protect itself by going into power save mode. Set your refresh rate to 60 Hz and try again.

i guess u might be goin into a refresh rate ur monitor cant support...might be the only reason to explain this problem!!!

nope, i just tried it with the monitor at 60Hz and the same thing happen. i have to wait unitl later to disconnect the other drives and try what DAPUNISHER suggested.

thanks for your advice so far

Sorry for wasting your time, i found the problem. My dumb ass forgot to connect the power to the card. i ran the test fine and got a 3384 score.

I appreciate your help.

Interesting, I didn't know the 6600GT AGP needed non-bus power. I glad it all worked out.
