Hello all..
I just upgraded from an ati 8500 Le to a XFX 6600 GT AGP DUAl DVI video card. The machine locks up during boot. I disabled hardware acceleration and it would run with dots all over the screen. I have tried at least 5 drivers. I cleaned the system with drive cleaner 3 and even tried a fresh install.
I updated the bios and even disabled the unused com ports to free up irq's.

Any ideas anyone?

System is:
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
512 Meg kingston pc3200 memory
sound blaster live
pioneer DVR -107D
Toshiba DVD-Rom SD-M1612
Maxtor 4 G120J6 120 gig ata hd
Maxtor 4 R120L0 120 gig ata hd
Maxtor 4G120J6 120 gig ata hd
Maxtor 4G120J6 120 gig ata hd
Maxtor 7Y250MO 250 gig sata hd
Realtek NIC card
650 watt power supply.

And yes, the card has the power connector attached..

Not sure if you've got it figured out yet already, but here's some suggestions:
Unplug a few hard drives and see if that helps. The latest geforce video cards use 2-3x more power than older generation cards and you could be running close to your power limit. Post your power supply brand/model for more help on that.

Make sure your motherboard bios is up to date. And test the card in another system (if you have one available) to see if it's something specific with your system or the video card.

The best thing for these new cards is to put them on their own power connector.

I have the card you have and it's worked fine for me.

Is the "650 watt power supply" a brand name, or a no-name?

I tried unplugging 5 of the drives and have updated the bios. The power supply is 550 watt branded X-power. Have yet to try the card in another system. Cannot find anything in the bios to turn off fast writes.
If I load the drivers, the system hangs at NV4_DISP and dump memory to hd. If I boot in safe mode vga mode system will come up. If I boot in safe mode, system hangs when it loads agp440.sys

Hi Guys
Here's the latest.
The card runs fine in vga mode. If I turn hardware acc down one notch it runs with artifacting.
I think I have a driver or irq conflict. I tried removing the nic and sound card from the system. The card shows irq 16 that it shares with the usb ports. Was thinking of disabling the usb just to see if that helps. If I boot regularly, the system still hangs at nv4_disp and windows dumps memory to hard drive.
No settings in bios to disable fast writes. Can somebody tell me what irq there card is running with?
Thanks

My XFX 6600GT AGP is on IRQ 19. By itself.

This will vary by computer though, I believe.

If you are using Windows XP, the following might be relevant. Key word... Might.

I did more research and *POTENTIALLY* found some assistance at Microsoft.

Don't just blindly do this, read through it SEVERAL times and see if it applies to you.

Ok ....so here is the three step fix I came up with.

1. RMA the XFX 6600 GT AGP for credit.
2. Get a Sapphire Radeon X800 PRO AGP video card instead.
3. Enjoy playing games again.....

Thanks for all the help ...
