Gah !

after I figured my 3650 HD died and installed the 4650 xfx replacement card a month ago. Then another problem pops op and it's fan started to stutter with grinding noises in the chassis. Is the fan failing?

My lil bro's PC is hp a6683w. I figured the vga has been positioned upright(vs upside down) could be a problem? I turned the case upside down to see if the fan could work...it works! Then again Why would I want my case upside down to begin with :/.

I checked the following:
- No dusts, almost dust free.
- PSU was adequate. 450 W
- Made sure the VGA fan gets the power (although it doesn't work off an on)
- Wires were well kept.

And my questions:

- Does a vga fan fail over time? (never OCed mild use)
- How's XFX service?
- Can the card be used even if there's a 120MM fan blowing on it?
- IF the service fails, what's the best replacement fan/HSF configuration would u guys recommend..dirt cheap of course nothing too special.

Cliff:

- Fan pooped 4650XFX , making stuttering/grinding noise.
- dust free, good psu, 1 yr of use

Unfortunately those small graphics card fans tend to fail pretty quickly, they're just very cheap. You could try oiling it. Or just remove the fan and set up an 80mm, 92mm, or 120mm fan to blow onto the card and heatsink. Will be quieter and should cool the card better than the tiny fan.

Well, the XFX service was pretty quick !

it sounds like gravity wins that battle. We can mail you a replacement fan if your comfortable installing the cooler onto the card yourself. You`ll need a small philips head screwdriver and some thermal paste

Well, I mean Fan sink. I`ll have the order put in and we`ll get that item shipped out tomorrow via USPS. Thanks, William.

Pretty sweet imo !

Not bad, that is pretty good service. Nice that they don't expect you to send the whole card in and are willing to just mail you a new cooler. :)
