XFree86 4.0 w/ Mandrake 7.2 and TNT?

Question:

I installed Mandrake 7.2. I have a Diamond V550 TNT graphics card. While installing it had a blurb about either using XFree 3.3.6 (I think) with 3D support or 4.0 without 3D support but faster 2D. Funny thing though - both choices were still of the 3 variety (no 4 option). Can I assume that the Nvidia 4 version drivers were not included in the distribution and I'll need to install both XFree86 4 and the new Nvidia drivers? For that matter how do I determine what version of XFree86 I am running?

For further confusion - how does Mesa and the different OpenGL implementations factor into this?

Thanks..I'm trying to learn : )

I'd suggest to download latest X server (4.01 probably, if you don't have it already) and drivers from Nvidia's homepage. Latest Nvidia's drivers works only with newest X. I got all that working in my machine lately, KDE now runs smooth as a vodka with hw. OpenGL support.

Docs which came with XFree4 and FAQ from Nvidia's website. Setting all up was pretty easy really...
