XF86Config or XF86Config-4?

What is XF86Config-4? What this "-4" stands for?
My Conectiva 6 and Mandrake 8 have these two XF86Config and XF86Config-4.

I don't know if this is a stupid question, but... I appreciate any help!

XFree86 4.x looks for a XF86Config-4 file first, and if it isn't there, it uses XF86Config. The reason for it is so that XFree86 3.x and XFree86 4.x can co-exist on the same machine if need be.
