There are two monitors 19" widescreen that I have been looking. (goodbye my $99 17" Mag). Both have similar spec, except the viewing angle and built in speaker. They are both ~$300:
- Xerox: http://www.xerox-displays.com/widescreen.html
- Viewsonic: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/de...a1912wb/#specs

Which one should I get? Both has 8ms response time, 1440x900 resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, 16:10 AR

The main difference is that the xerox has two analog input and one dvi while the viewsonic has one analog and one dvi. The viewsonic has built in speakers.

Look wise, I like the xerox better (no button), plain frame.

I reallly wish there had been responses to this, I'd like to know peoples otions myself.

A couple of days ago I bought the Xerox XR6-19dw from Microcenter for $300. Like you I prefer the look of the Xerox case design to the viewsonic. And the specs ares pretty close. The viewsonic is $50 more but right now there is a $50 rebate.

I'm considering taking back the xerox today to get the viewsonic. Here are the reasons why:

1. I seem to have a bit of backlight bleeding with the xerox. But I'm not sure if this is really that big of a deal, this is my first dektop LCD so I have nothing to judge it by byt my Gateway laptop monitor which is 15.5 inch widescreen. Compared to my gateway the backlight bleeding is noticable which is really isn't on the gateway. But the Xerox is a heck of a lot brighter then the gateway and the gatway has a clear protective sheild over it which I think helps increase it's good looks. But I have noticed the balcklight bleeding the xerox and I never noticed it before on my gateway.

2. The Xerox is made by proview and has a 1 year warranty. The Viewsonic is made by viewsonic (as far I know) and has a 3 year warranty. That in itself is probably the best reason to go with the viewsonic.

3. The viewsonic has built in speakers. Personally I think it clutters the design and I don't think I'll use them. But they are there if you need them and you might as well get more for your money if both monitors are teh same price anyway.

4. More people own the viewsonic. When searching goggle for reviews of the Xerox I can up with two pages of only "great deals" type of stuff. Nothing that constitutes a review by regular users or anyone in the review business. I don't know if the xerox is just too new or if no-one is really buying them. Xerox doesn't really have much of a name for itself in the display business. Maybe that will change in time.
With a lot of people owning the viewsonic there is a lot more information out there about it and most people seem happy with it.

5. A DVI cable. Some reviews of the viewsonic I've read say a DVI cable comes in the box and others say it doesn't. I'd like to know what the read story is here. if it does dcome with a DVI cable, there is $15-50 you can save right there.

The Xerox has a clean design. I really like the casing. The bezel is a thin flat black kfinish that is even all the way around the display for a symetrical design. The buttons are hiudden under the display and the only thing visable is the Xerox name and button markets in white on the lower part of the bezel. But I still think I'm going to exchange it for the viewsonic because of everything I mention above.

Just an update. I returned the Xerox and got the Viewsonic.

The Viewsonic in the end will be the same price after rebate. It did in fact come with a DVI cable as well as an analog cable. So you get more for the money.
It sits higher then the Xerox but actually I like that better. The color and backlight appear more even on the viewsonic as well. I can see it from a slightly greater angle and the color doesn't change as quickly. The build quality also seems alot better. I noticed that right away.

Very happy I returned the xerox and got the viewsonic
