xeon processors for laptops?

I know that intel's xeon is meant for corp servers. The only consumer deployment of the xeon processors for regular joes like us is the Apple Mac Pro desktop that I know of.

My question is does anyone know of a xeon based laptop? Why? Two good reasons for me - power & speed. No more simple than that.

i think i understand what your asking.

However, there is no laptop which is branded Xeon. Not even apple.

There are laptop chips used in rack on servers labeled xeons tho.

That follows the intel Lindenberg chipset.

I use Xeon chips in my desktop, but these are LGA775 Xeons.
Xeon's also come in the more common socket LGA771.

This is just on the current platform.

Current Xeons have no more power than their consumer counterparts.

Xeons are usually made to work together in a multiple CPU environment and I really doubt you could cram 2 CPUS into a laptop because that would defeat the purpose of the laptop .

What you need is a 17" monster that has a desktop quadcore in it.

X3330 - Q9400
X3350 - Q9550
X3370 - Q9650

Do not have boards which support 2 processors. If it did, id be all over them as those are yorkfields on LGA775 labeled xeons.

First, I realize there are no laptops named xeon.
As I understand it, the hierarchy goes like this.
T series --> P series --> X series --> Xeon series (X if I'm not mistaken stands for extreme processor). Where does the E series fit in?
I know there are at least 2 laptops that have quads (lenovo & toshiba). I think Dell just, just announced two centrino-2 duals in one of their laptop models (total 4 cores).

Apple has a desktop with 2 (two) Xeon quads. but that's a desktop. Wanted to know if there is a laptop that uses xeon (dual) as its engine. Anyone know?

you got your numbering all wrong.

T is usually the notation for laptop.

There is no P series. I think you ment Q which means Quad.

X series, came a long time ago as Xtreme series, however now its more commonly known as QX for quad xtreme. There is no more dual Xtreme.

The current X is to designate Xeon cpu's.

E also represents dualcores like E8500, but also quadcores on Xeons. E5430.


And no there is no xeon laptop. As i said the closest you'll get to xeon mobile cpu's are the ones i have on my sammy rig.
