I'm slightly nervous because I need to order a few thousand dollars of ram... so I just wanted to make sure there's nothing funky about Dell xeon workstations such that they can't take generic 667mhz fb-ram like the following.

Use the Kingston (or Crucial..whatever) memory configuration tools on their respective websites. They'll tell you what memory modules the manufacturer's say will work. That's the only way to be 100% sure. You'll need to enter the model no. etc. of the Dell workstation you're looking at.
