You must have grabbed one of the $119 boards from ebay.. ;) Good board, decent price.. still 5 left too :)

No, I haven't yet. I may tonight or may not. The problem is the weak Canuck dollar and the high shipping costs and brokerage fees.

ATM, I can get a new 4770K and decent Z-87 board (Asus Z-87-A or Plus) with warranty and free shipping for about $10.00 more than the X58/6550 combo shipped from 'Merica to the colonies. Tough call, as it's no longer a cheapskate hexcore option. And getting 12GB of tri-channel RAM is more $$ than 16GB of dual channel.

Or I could just wait it out until the Haswee refresh is available, but that is going to be pricier up here I expect.

Going to wait this out. The bidding wars on old X58 boards has moved on up to crazy town it seems. I've put in a few bids on X58 boards, but once they got close to retail, I bailed.

My theory is that once DC and the Hassee 8 cores on X99 are released, then the keeners on X79/hexcores will jump platforms and X79 used prices will drop and in turn pop the X58 bubble. At that time I can swoop in and nab a hundred dollar X58 board.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Lol, good luck with that theory! It'll be awhile before these old work horses are put out to pasture. They work well, especially for video rendering & encoding. Overclocked they even beat I7 3930k & 4930k (stock). :whiste:

Agreed. That's why I want one, they're workhorses, that are worth their weight in oats. But, cheap oats, not those gourmet retail ones sold in plush online superstores.

Will see if my crude homemade economic theory comes to cheapskate fruition. You can scoff at me in August if it doesn't and I can beg you to render some of my animations. How's that?

Take it from me... or my 2 cents,

I did the math going to X79, I was ready to by a RIVE black 4930k, 16GB of ram...

Then a light bulb went off... "What is the real % increase: Swolern and I on OCN did some benches..."

He had a 3930k and tri titans, I had a i7-930 @ 4.4ghz(now I use a X5660 @ 4.56/4.7and selling the 930).

X79 at most with 1vs2vs3vs4 way titans in SLI Surround, no doubt was faster but for 10 more FPS is this worth it for you? To me 100% no. I am also in the high end, I run 4 monitors game at 4800 x 2560 (thats higher than 4k), and use the 4th as an accessory. Why go and spend $1k-1,500 for a mediocre performance gain. PCIE 3.0... no, it is minimal.... More clock??? Have you seen Kara's marks with the Xeon.

To me the better upgrade is used elsewhere:

Samsung Pro 840 SSD check
Titans check
Monitors check
add more ram check
nice mouse check
nice OMNI soundcard check
Headphones to go with it check.

You are welcome to disagree but X58 is a live and well, is it worth paying retail? I leave that up to you but my 930 is not as good as my xeon but its pretty far up there, then with my gigabyte x58-ud5 rev 2.0 It kinda speaks for itself. I am not here asking for bones BTW. I just want you guys to think long and hard before you spend money on an "upgrade" which at the end, I believe it is, but for me I run thief at close to 60FPS the only time I wish for an "upgrade" is when I game with something like Metro Last Light or Titanfall, but thats not due to my system thats due to the game not being properly setup for SLI.

Setup is here:

Well....you better be right. Just overpaid to get a Sabertoothed X58 and have a X5660 inbound. I'm either going to get a video editing workhorse or Intel will release the 8 core HW-E for $500 and will clock to 5.5Gig. On Air. At stock volts. ;-)

In 7 to 10 days I'll be back here nagging, begging, pleading for OC advise and generally annoying everyone with my Cinebenches.

Thanks for letting me into this exclusive and semi-cheapskate club. This is a club, right? With membership privileges and h'orderves on demand?

Not days, but minutes....

Has any X58 sabertoothed user run a dpc latency test on their system?

In the mad rush to win the bidding wars at all costs, I didn't research this vital stat. Low dpc latency is vital for audio/video work.

Any suggestions for 4GB RAM sticks for the Sabertooth? Will the modern 1.5V be better than the 1.65V modules?

Thanks!

Wow! You actually got a Sabertooth? Impressive! It's going to live up to your expectations ;) Can't really give advice on RAM, I grabbed 12Gb of Patriot Sector 7 RAM and using XMP Profile, it requires 1.65 volts. It's rock solid stable tho on all overclocks. I am jealous of the X5660, that's my next chip as soon as I get some down time. Don't worry, you've got a good video editing machine that will cut thru your jobs like a hot knife thru butter ;) You're going to be happy with it :) Post up some pics & benchmarks when it gets here..

Yeah...thought since I'm buying a used board, it might as well be a high(ish) end one. And the price difference between most vanilla boards and the Sabertooth was only about 50-60 bucks more, so why not?

And here's one that has no bids yet, for much less than what I paid:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/201080447014?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Since your rig is near identical to my new rig (copying is the 2nd highest form of flattery) would you mind running a dpc latency test on your rig? I'd be very grateful and promise not to mention 8 core HW-E chips ever again. Or 6 months. Whichever is soonest.

Jealous of a 5660? Just wait until the cheap 5680s and 5690s start to show up in volume. They will won't they?

Thanks, Burpo! Like to see the green.

Not thrilled with the numbers in the hundreds tho. My current 1156 system never goes above 90us. At least the Sabertooth provides a solid basis for tweaking. Are you using the USB3 ports and onboard audio? Is the Cuisinart attachment and martini shaker connected?

Hi,
i've seen that some of you have evga x58 le with xeon westmere processor and wanted to ask you, if you had any problems with it.Right now i will buy it and install x5650 on it, but need to be sure that everything is fine.Do you have vt-d option in the bios for virtualization? My goal is to reach 4ghz stable and use it with 32gb ram.

Just got a pair of X5660's ordered for $380. I hope I didn't get ripped off.....They are replacing a pair of X5570's, because I need more horsepower in that box.

I just got an X5650 for $99. I'm surprised how quickly the price goes up, and surprised how cheap these are priced.

Good choice! They really are the price point, performance leader.. The X5660 offers higher multi, but at twice the $$..
