Xeon hyperthreading a waste on XP Pro

If I'm interpreting this article correctly, there's no point to enabling hyperthreading on Windows XP Pro or Win2k Pro. Since XP Pro only uses a max of two processors enabling hyperthreading doesn't buy you anything at all, since the OS only uses the first two. Looks like you'd need Advanced Server, which can take four cpu's, to see any real benefit.

Unless you only have one Xeon CPU... in which case that woudl accoutn for two CPUs... and you'd be all good.

But seriously, anyone who has a pair of Xeon CPUs and is not using it as a high-end server has too much money and should give some to me. 🙂

The OS needs to be licensed for four CPUs for Hyper-Threading to work with two Xeons. W2K Pro is limited to two CPUs. W2K Server and XP Pro can handle four CPUs. I run XP Pro with my Xeons. The system seems a little smoother with Hyper-Threading enabled but this is only a subjective comment.
